SUMMARY:SICSA Education Seminar: Investigating the challenges of dyslexia and the future aids that can support students
DESCRIPTION:For our September Education Seminar\, we are thrilled that PhD student\, Catriona Weir from University of Strathclyde will be presenting her research. \nAbstract:\nDyslexia is a neurological learning disability that impacts people’s reading\, writing and spelling abilities. It is thought that ten per cent of the UK population may have dyslexia. Previous research studies have found that those with dyslexia tend to have good creative and problem-solving skills. Therefore\, it is understandable that computing science appeals to those with dyslexia as it utilises both these skills. However\, students with dyslexia can face additional challenges when learning to program\, and this may have an impact on their motivation and future success. \nThis talk investigates the additional challenges that those with dyslexia face and the future aids that can support them in completing their computing studies. \nRegister for in-person or online tickets

SUMMARY:The British Colloquium for Theoretical Computer Science (BCTCS)
DESCRIPTION:(BCTCS) is an annual event for UK-based researchers in theoretical computer science. A central aspect of BCTCS is the training of PhD students\, providing an environment for students to gain experience in presenting their work\, to broaden their outlook on the subject\, and to benefit from contact with established researchers. The scope of the colloquium includes all aspects of theoretical computer science\, including automata theory\, algorithms\, complexity theory\, semantics\, formal methods\, concurrency\, types\, languages and logics. \nThere will also be TCS Education Track Talks to highlight specific challenges or innovations related to theoretical computer science topics or courses. \nFind out more and register to attend
