Education Champions
Sharing best practice for learning and teaching in Computing Science in Higher Education
SICSA Education Champions represent each of our universities across Scotland, organising events and activities relevant to Computing Science Education including professional lectures, conferences, training and research studies.
We aim to:
- Scope out events and activities that can promote and complement existing efforts within individual institutions;
- Raise awareness of activities within institutions which may interest the wider SICSA Education community;
- Promote SICSA Education activities within institutions to ensure we are reaching the right audience.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
“The Education Champions play a hugely important role in how SICSA Education engages with the wider Scottish Higher Education community. This year, our theme will be Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and I’m looking forward to working with our Champions to roll out a fantastic programme of events and activities.”
”EDI is vital for computer science in Scotland to foster innovation, creativity and inclusive solutions that reflect the needs of all communities. By empowering diverse talent, we can reduce inequalities and prepare the next generation of computing professionals to tackle society’s challenges.”

Bridging the Gap: How Dispositions and Meta-Cognition Shape Computing Graduates’ Transition to Work
The transition from university into the workplace can be a shock to the system, especially in computing, where technology, tools, and expectations evolve faster than most curricula can keep up. While degrees tend to produce graduates with solid technical knowledge, many still struggle with other aspects required in the workplace, such as collaborative work, managing

Serious Games for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Training
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) is often used as a collective buzz term but is in fact a highly complex umbrella like term for several intricate concepts that are interconnected. DEI groups together three or sometimes more values/concepts where the ‘E’ in the acronym can stand for ‘equality’ or sometimes ‘equity.’ Acronyms have also been

Educating with Robots: Preparing the Next Generation for a Humanoid-Driven Future
In recent reports, The UK Government Office for Science (GoScience) noted that UK ranks 1st for research quality in Robotics (GOV.UK, 2025a). Robotics is rapidly expanding, 205,000 professional-service robots were sold globally in 2023, a 30% increase year-on-year (GOV.UK, 2025a). However, as robots are moving from labs to workplaces, the education systems risk falling behind

Inclusive teaching of mathematical proofs to computer science students
Mathematics often provides the theoretical underpinning for computing, which is one of the fundamental requirements of a computing degree (QAA, 2022). Mathematical proofs, in turn, are central in establishing mathematical truths, and so are important in computing to, for example, establishing the correctness of an algorithm. Therefore, learning to write mathematical proofs is often in

Pedagogical Impacts of ChatGPT and Other LLMs
As we approach the anniversary of our workshop on the “Pedagogical Implications of ChatGPT and other LLMs,” hosted by RGU’s School of Computing and sponsored by SICSA Education, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on a day of exciting discussions and perspectives. The event drew a full house of 40 attendees, and included
